From Amy Mitchell
A Message from the PresidentIt is with great excitement and humility that I step into the shoes of a long line of extraordinary Presidents in this the year of the 100th Anniversary of Exchange. Thanks to all of you for making the Installation Banquet so special for me. Steve Griffith and his trusty assistant, Peggy Heinemeyer deserve extra kudos for organizing the entire evening. I am not sure I know all of the work that went on behind the scenes, but I really appreciate every one of you. Linda Schoonmaker was a wonderful emcee; Roy Miers and Margo Pasko took care of the “house” details, including nametags and registration. Nora Sim provided gorgeous table decorations; Paul DeMarsh and Jake Messinger wrote the script for the video; Larry Pullen took photos; and Mary Jo Salvaggio oversaw that post-event gathering at the Post Oak Grill. Special thanks go to Jake Messinger who sang the national anthem beautifully, did that incredible video and has supported me and believed in me more than any other person. He has helped me become the person I am today. There were others whom I’ve probably missed, but thanks again to all of you for making the evening one to remember for a lifetime. For the coming year, I have selected the motto of “Rise and Shine.” My goals for our club are simple. I want to increase public awareness of Exchange and its community involvement at minimum additional cost to Exchange as well as help our club grow and thrive while having fun and getting to know each other better. This year we will embrace all aspects of our four areas of our core values:
In my address to the club I outlined my plans for the coming year which include redistributing child abuse prevention funds to Fort Bend area organizations, sponsoring events such as Title sponsor of the CASA Gala and Sponsor of the Boogie to get public recognition, funding a child abuse prevention program at the Women’s Center, helping to create an journalism internship program with Bush High School, continuing our support of the ESCAPE Center, adding additional beneficiaries of our fundraising including Asians Against Domestic Abuse, the Girl Scouts and the Fort Bend County Fair, having more social and community service events, and making Santa’s Exchange a line item in the budget directly from the Spaghetti Cook off fund raising efforts.
It just naturally follows that we will “Rise and Shine.” in our lives, with our families and in the
community. My hope for this year is that we can maintain our strong commitment to others,
while at the same time enjoying our activities and our time with each other.
Thank you for allowing me to be your president. For further information, please contact the Exchange Club of Sugar Land, or feel free to contact me direct at president@ecsl.org |
